My Story
Hi,
I’m Shawna, founder of Daughters of the King, and it’s my joy to welcome you here.
The call on my life to establish safe spaces for women was forged through a lifetime of surviving abuse. Life was not easy for me growing up and my early experiences led to a nervous system primed for later abuse. This came in the form of unhealthy female friendships, intimate relationships, work environments, and even years in a religious cult.
It was during my pregnancy with my oldest son, where Abba began to call me back to Himself. I had backslidden from my faith and was faced with a partner who was regularly using physical force on me. That wasn’t the worst, though. For me, the mental and emotional manipulation was far more damaging to my sense of reality and identity.
I was terrified, desperate for help, and, ultimately, uncomfortably aware of how incapable I was of being “lord” over my own life. The consequences of following my own will had caught up to me and life seemed destitute.
Despite my rebellion against Him, Yahweh hadn’t left me.
Despite my sin-filled life of idolatry, sexual immorality, and pride … Abba had been waiting all along for me to run to Him for rescue. And that’s just what He did.
… on my knees, screaming out into the wild Maui winds, tears streaming down my face, atop a cliff …
He met me.
Within moments those screams turned to praise, those tears of desperation to tears of complete joy, and my mourning literally turned to dancing!
Since that moment, life has never been the same.
Abba began immediately placing women in my path that were trapped in the grips of narcissistic abuse, and so the work began. My healing came through a unique combination of prayer, education, and somatic movement and that is how I conduct the spaces I facilitate for other women. You will find opportunities to grow in your relationship with Yahweh, actively work through stored trauma in your body, and become equipped both psychologically and spiritually to rise as a beloved daughter of the Most High.
It's nice to meet you.
